Saline or Silicone? Round or teardrop shape? Smooth or textured surface?
Women's bodies can be very different from one person to the next. We understand that you have unique ideas about beauty, and that using a standard breast implant type would defeat the purpose of custom cosmetic breast augmentation. Thanks to modern technology, we are able to offer a wide variety of implant types to choose from.
So which type should you choose? My staff members and I will spend time discussing your body goals to help you choose the type, size and shape that will give you ideal results.
Two filler options
When choosing your breast implant type, you have two filler options: saline or silicone. Saline implants contain saline liquid inside a silicone elastomer shell. Silicone implants are filled with a new type of silicone gel that was developed during the 14 years that silicone gel implants were restricted by the FDA. In November, 2006, the FDA approved the new silicone gel implants made by two companies and you can rest assured that both saline and silicone gel implants are completely safe.
Here are some facts about each.
Saline Implants
- The most popular choice in the U.S.
- More likely to show wrinkling or rippling in women with little breast tissue
- Look very similar to silicone gel implants
- Slight risk of rupturing, leaking, or hardening
- Choose from fixed-volume or adjustable-volume
- Smaller incision is used because saline implants are filled with their saline solution after they've been implanted
Silicone Gel implants
- Choose from smooth or textured shell surfaces, round or teardrop shapes, different profiles, volumes, and shell thicknesses
- Slight risk of rupture and capsular contracture
- Silicone implants are pre-filled and their size cannot be altered once they are implanted
- A larger incision is used because silicone implants are pre-filled
- Some say silicone has a more natural look and feel
- Rippling is less likely to occur due to the thick gel filler
- Can be placed over the muscle with less rippling concerns
- Higher cost
- Better for women with minimal breast tissue or women having reconstruction
Not sure about what size implant you want? With adjustable-volume saline implants, I am able to reduce or increase the amount of filler after implantation for custom size adjustment.
All breast implants have some degree of risk. During your initial breast enlargement consultation, I will discuss with you the risks and benefits of each filler, size, shape and texture.
