So you've made the decision to have cosmetic surgery? Then now it is time to learn all you can about the particular procedure and prepare yourself for it.

The more you know, the less stressful your pre-operative, surgical, and post-operative experience will be. I and my staff should be available to answer any questions you may have about your procedure, no matter how insignificant they may seem. Although the focus is on giving you the best results possible, we should also be making sure you are comfortable with each step. While some centers focus on glamorizing what cosmetic surgery can achieve, I strive to paint an accurate picture of your procedure and make sure you have very realistic expectations.

As a prospective cosmetic surgery patient, you can do a number of things to prepare for your procedure:

  • Prepare a list of unanswered questions and make sure all of them are answered thoroughly and to your satisfaction.
  • Take time to look through many Before and After photos of your procedure - compare results, ask questions about techniques I use, and point out to me examples that you feel show ideal results.
  • Make sure you report your health history accurately, including allergies and past illnesses. If you've ever had a reaction to any type of anesthesia, make sure you tell us. If you aren't quite sure about your family or medical history, call your family practitioner or talk to family members.
  • Write down a list of goals you'd like fulfilled through your cosmetic surgery procedure, including emotional as well as physical goals.
  • Make sure you know exactly what to expect during healing and recovery, and that you understand the timeline involved and when to expect your final results.
  • Ask how you can maximize the results of your procedure through healthy lifestyle choices like diet, exercise, and sun protection.
  • Set up a payment or financing plan you are completely comfortable with.
  • If you think you may want to have additional cosmetic surgery in the future, consider having two or more procedures performed together to save time and costs.
  • Ask yourself if you plan on having children in the future and ask me about the impact of childbirth on the body. Some of my body contouring procedures are recommended only for women who are not planning to have children, or who have finished having them.
  • Pay attention to the description of the procedure - I find that the more people know about what is happening to their body, the less anxiety they have both before surgery and afterwards.
  • Schedule ample recovery time away from work and plan on following our recovery protocol closely. Trying to do too much too soon following surgery can jeopardize your health and your results.
  • Make sure you have help during your recovery time - if you have children, make arrangements for some support in the home so you can truly relax during your recovery period.
  • We can arrange for you to talk to other men and women in your area who've had cosmetic surgery and they can share their experiences with you.

If you have any lingering questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to discuss them with myself or my staff.
