Skin Care (Organoderm)

I have been treating skin problems for almost a quarter century. Over this period of time, we have come a long way in improving its appearance, in spite of increasing pollution in our environment. Still, the sun remains the number one cause of damage to the skin and its various layers. Pollution, though, is not far behind- from our atmosphere and other harmful chemicals that we are exposed to either directly or indirectly.

Preventing these damaging effects is still more fruitful than treating them and, therefore,  is the highest priority. The treatment of the skin has a range of options. The most readily available are topical skin care products. Other more invasive procedures that I have used that are effective are Fraxcel, dermabrasion and  lasers. The latter work by removing several layers of skin, after which the skin “repairs” itself.  More about these surgical options can be found on my website.

 Let us focus instead on the easiest, non surgical, thing that you can do to maintain or regain healthy skin. This involves daily application of a broad-spectrum sun screen to protect against the ultraviolet rays-UVB, UVA, the former causing the reddening of the skin and “tanning” but the latter actually penetrating deeper and causing the most damage to the skin, which results in the lines, wrinkles and texture changes we associate with aging.
 
Sunscreens protect against the damaging effects of ultraviolet radiation. They fall into two main categories based on their ingredients, either inorganic(and thus synthetic) suncreens like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide products or those made from organic molecules like are found in my Organoderm Environmental Protection Day Lotion SPF 30 plus protection. Zinc Oxide causes an actual physical block of ultraviolet rays. Titanium oxide’s effect is by deflecting ultraviolet rays. Any product that contains either zinc oxide or titanium, are not organic but synthetic compounds. Organic blocking agents work by absorbing the ultraviolet rays.

Since the orginal sunscreens of the 50’s, there have been improvements, which not only contain the broad-spectrum sunblocking ingredients, but concurrently   are enhanced and fortified by the addition of antioxidants, which work directly to reverse the aging damage caused by the sun. This is how I have formulated my Organoderm Day Lotion with SPF 30 broad spectrum organic sunscreen protection.

Chemicals that we are exposed to in our environment, like nicotine or carbon monoxide or other harmful ones taken internally like dioxin, directly cause and contribute to damaging our skin and its various components like collagen and elastin, which are essential to keep it looking and feeling healthy. Unfortunately, we do not live in a vacuum, but are continuously exposed to these, as well as wind, sun and rain.

One of the reasons for introducing Organoderm skin care products was because I found it logical to just use naturally occurring compounds and ingredients on my skin rather than possibly harmful, artificial, synthetically produced ones. It made no sense to me to use synthetic chemicals to repair the damage caused by other synthetic chemicals!

After this daily exposure to pollutants, I recommend that the skin be cleansed with my USDA certified Organoderm Olive Cucumber & Watercress Fresh Foaming Cleanser. This will remove the surface dirt, grease and grim visible and invisible pollutants, that have accumulated during the day. The more exposure to pollution, like even commuting or working in an urban area or being exposed to smoke or other unhealthy situations in your surroundings, the more the need to not only cleanse but also use an exfoliator like my Organic Raw Sugar Exfoliator.

An exfoliator removes the dead skin, which allows deeper penetration of the rejuvenating ingredients. Even though ingredients in my Environmental Protection Day Lotion SPF30+ protect and repair, my other products help accelerate this process due to higher concentration of these essential ingredients and help maintain a youthful, healthy appearance in the skin. I recommend applying my Green Energy Serum, which is a much more concentrated collection of these rejuvenating ingredients, essential oils, as well as the Younger Eye gel around the eyes.

I have tried different formulations to arrive at one that removes the pollutants and cleans the skin yet prevents skin irritation.
